Free trams confirmed for Hogmanay in Edinburgh

There will be a free all night tram service running on Edinburgh Trams again this Hogmanay it has been confirmed. With this year being the first Hogmanay since the extension to Newhaven opened there will also be a split service operating whilst Princes Street is closed for the festivities to take place.

NET 222 receives new name

As was revealed a few months ago, Nottingham Express Transit have honoured Mary Earps with a tram naming. Mary Earps is the England goalkeeper who also plays for Manchester United and was born in West Bridgford and has received the honour for her performances during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 (which England won) and the FIFA Women’s World Cup earlier this week (which England did not win).

In Pictures: Midland Metro 16 moves outside at Dudley

Last month we reported that ex-Midland Metro T69 16 had been moved to the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre in Dudley. It is set to be worked on to become a test tram for new equipment but this has yet to commence and in the meantime it has been moved on site at Dudley.

Work to resume on Newhaven overhead issue

Repairs to the overhead line equipment between Ocean Terminal and Newhaven are to resume with the bespoke components needed now manufactured and delivered. Edinburgh Trams services have been suspended between these two stops since Friday 24th November.

In Pictures: Blackpool 003 is a Pretty Little Thing no more!

Blackpool’s Flexity2 003 is back in fleet livery for the first time in over five years after its advertising vinyls for Pretty Little Thing were removed. The change to the tram occurred in the first full week of December and the tram was back in service by 10th December in the current purple and white fleet livery carried by the Flexity2 fleet.

Metrolink disruption on 1CC after panto damage

Manchester Metrolink services running on the First City Crossing via Market Street and Shudehill were suspended during the evening of Saturday 9th December after a piece of tarpaulin got caught in the pantograph of a tram at Market Street.

The latest new advert on a tram in Edinburgh has been applied to the highest numbered tram in the fleet with 277 the recipient. The advert is for Port of Leith Distillery and is of the “Edinburgh” style rather than being a full vinyl wrap.

TfGM launch new campaign against poor parking

Transport for Greater Manchester have launched another new campaign – this time its against poor parking which they say impacts other motorists, pedestrians and public transport users. This includes cars being parked too close to tram lines causing delays to Metrolink services.

New Chair appointed at Midland Metro Limited

Phil Hewitt has been appointed as the new Chair of Midland Metro Limited (MML), the operator of the ever expanding West Midlands Metro network. Mr Hewitt has over 30 years experience in senior roles across the light rail sector and has previously served as Metro Director at Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) before the launch of services to Library in 2019.

All but one of the categories (Event) has now been split into “Heritage” and “Modern” as we know there are those out there who have an interest in one and not the other so this will allow each of these sub-categories to compete against themselves. The “Event” category has not been split this year because one of the sub-categories would only have had a single nominee which would have made it all rather pointless!
