Free trams confirmed for Hogmanay in Edinburgh

There will be a free all night tram service running on Edinburgh Trams again this Hogmanay it has been confirmed. With this year being the first Hogmanay since the extension to Newhaven opened there will also be a split service operating whilst Princes Street is closed for the festivities to take place.

Trams will run the full route until 1900 on Saturday 30th December after which the service will be split into two until approximately 1000 on Monday 1st January. Trams will run:

  • Edinburgh Airport-West End
  • Picardy Place-Newhaven

The service running will include free trams between 0000 and 0200 every 10 minutes and every 20 minutes thereafter into the early hours. This is aimed to help partygoers get back home or to their accommodation safely.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “Following the enormous success of free, late-night trams in previous years, we’re thrilled to be able to run them again for everyone to get around the city, whatever time they decide to call it a night!”

This year’s Hogmanay concert in Princes Street Gardens will be led by Pulp.

    So, presumably, they expect the OHLE problems to be sorted by then?
