Work to resume on Newhaven overhead issue

Repairs to the overhead line equipment between Ocean Terminal and Newhaven are to resume with the bespoke components needed now manufactured and delivered. Edinburgh Trams services have been suspended between these two stops since Friday 24th November.

Sets of section insulator brackets are currently being assembled in the workshops and once this has been done engineers will be back on site in the week commencing 18th December 2023. This will see the new equipment installed and then tested ahead of a return to a full service along the entire line.

Until these are completed there remains ticket acceptance in place on Lothian Buses service 16 and Skylink 200 between Ocean Terminal and Newhaven.

A spokesman from Edinburgh Trams said: “Once again, we would like to apologise to customers for the ongoing disruption on this section of the network and thank them for their patience and understanding.

“The specialist parts required to complete the work were not immediately available, but once the assembly and fitting are complete, we hope to resume a full service after the necessary safety checks are carried out.

“While a frequent, seven-minute tram service between Edinburgh Airport and Ocean Terminal is operating as normal, for the time being, customers should continue to allow a little extra time for their journey if they are travelling beyond Ocean Terminal to Newhaven. They should also follow our social media channels for further updates.”
