Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Cambrian Street

Back to Manchester for another edition of “Then & Now” as we take another look at how things were and are now at Cambrian Street.

Last week we were looking northeast from the Cambrian Street bridge so this week we turn around and point the camera to the southwest. As we noted last week this bridge crosses over the Metrolink line between the stops at Holt Town and Etihad Campus.

On 7th March 2010 it’s a fine and sunny day when we look southwest here. Early work has already taken place in preparing the trackbed but there does still need to be considerable work before trams can run. And it would be around three years before passengers could enjoy that pleasure.

Over 13 years later and we are on the same bridge and look in the same direction again as 3114 heads towards us with a service to Ashton-under-Lyne. Holt Town stop is in the background as we look towards Piccadilly and the city centre. The wall on the right is still in place and has been hit by graffiti in the intervening years. 1. Andy Coward says:

Beneath that bridge is where many cars came to grief after trying their hand at off-roading. It used to be a regular occurrence until additional (lots of) signage was installed.
