In Pictures: Winter tram movements at Crich

Although the Crich Tramway Village is closed to the public until March that does not mean that the site is all locked up and that nothing is happening. In fact that has been far from the case with work continuing in the workshop on both the long-term restoration projects as well as some general maintenance whilst there has also been a small shunt of trams between the depot and Great Exhibition Hall.

Public consultation to take place on proposed light rail line to Stourbridge

Pre Metro Operations Limited – operator of the Stourbridge to Stourbridge Junction service – have just started another public consultation of the proposed “Dasher” service which would run between Stourbridge and Brierley Hill. Since previous research was conducted the West Midlands Metro line to Brierley Hill has begun construction so this new service would connect Stourbridge to this extension.

Nexus apprentices get training underway as more are recruited

Nexus’ 2023 cohort of apprentices are now settling into their training programmes and not ones to rest of their laurels Nexus have now started recruitment for next year’s intake. Nine people started their training in September, in a variety of roles including power supplies, civil engineering, data science, business administration, HR and project management.

Security boost on West Midlands Metro

West Midlands Metro staff are to start wearing body-work cameras as part of a new safety initiative which aims to provide additional peace of mind for anyone travelling on the tram network. Its hoped that the cameras will help front-line staff further reduce the risk of serious incidents involving anti-social behaviour and other unacceptable activity.

Final trams leave Wyre Dock

A line can finally be drawn under the dream of creating a tram museum and attraction in Fleetwood (although its been known for some time it wouldn’t be happening) with the final intact trams being removed from Wyre Dock – from the storage compound which has been home to a number of trams since 2013 – in early December. There were just two trams remaining and its now been confirmed that privately owned Brush 637 has been scrapped whilst both cars of Twin Set 673+683 have been moved off site for a new life.

San Francisco to get a third Blackpool Boat Car

If two Blackpool Boat Cars are better than one, then it is clear that three are even better! And that’s something which San Francisco’s Market Street Railway agree with as they have just announced that they have secured a third Boat for their operation, with a fundraising appeal now in place to get the last money needed for its transport.

In Pictures: A chilly Ride the Lights gets underway at Carlton Colville

Once again weekends in December in the lead up to Christmas will see the East Anglia Transport Museum open their doors for “Ride the Lights”. This will see the museum offering tram, trolleybus and railway rides with special lighting displays also in place to bring festive cheer to all who take the trouble to visit.
