Picture in Time: Manchester Metrolink 1009

Another edition of “Picture in Time” coming from Manchester Metrolink.

We are again in the summer of 1994 for this photo which almost certainly features T68 1009 which was carrying the name “Co-Operative Insurance”. Its just curving on to the carriageway of Mosley Street with a service for Altrincham with the variable height single direction platform of Mosley Street in the background. This stop was finally closed in 2013 (it was only ever served by trams heading towards Altrincham and not from) and today it has been replaced by an electronic destination display advising would be passengers whether they should go to Piccadilly Gardens or Market Street for their next tram to Altrincham.

1009 is another of the T68s to have been scrapped. Delivered to Manchester on 12th January 1992, it entered service on day one (6th April 1992) and remained in service until withdrawal on 17th December 2013. After storage it was transported to Rotherham for scrapping on 17th September 2014.
