Stadler pledge to support local businesses in Metro contract

Stadler, the company who won the contract to build the new fleet of trains for the Tyne and Wear alongside a new maintenance contract and the rebuilding of South Gosforth, have confirmed they will be “making localism a key tent of the project” with a series of local firms appointed to deliver on the overall project.

Advert Up-close: Edinburgh Trams 257 – Ray Harryhausen Titan of Cinema exhibition

It has become the most popular type of advert on a UK tram in recent years – the majority of the tram just gets ads above the windows with just one or two sections having full height adverts, allowing for the tram’s fleet livery to still be seen. Punctuality falls as reliability increases on Metrolink

The last we ran one of these stories on Manchester Metrolink performance the headline was “Punctuality up, reliability down” and this time it’s the complete opposite as punctuality has fallen and reliability has gone up! As has often been the case since Covid hit the report released covers three consecutive reporting periods – from 18th October 2020 (period 8) to 9th January 2021 (period 10). Although there has been a fall in punctuality it is only a small decrease and the increase in reliability is more than 2% so it is a generally positive picture for how the system continues to operate.

First look at what trams in Dudley will look like

The Midland Metro Alliance – who plan and construct extensions of the West Midlands Metro on behalf of Transport for West Midlands – have released a computer generated video to show what the trams will look like as they travel through Dudley Town Centre. This “first look” gives the public the first chance to see what the blue trams may look like as they operate in Dudley – with the service due to commence at some point in 2023.

Lost Trams: Dudley & Stourbridge single deck tram

Today we go back to our very occasional series of “Lost Trams”, and in the case of this tram it truly does seem to be lost in the middle of the woods in Romsley Hill, Worcestershire! It is a Dudley & Stourbridge single-decker dating from 1898/9 which would have last run in 1930 at the latest.

Overhead line works to close Metro services in central Newcastle for two weeks in February

All Tyne and Wear Metro services through central Newcastle and Gateshead will be suspended between Monday 15th and Sunday 28th February to allow for the replacement of the overhead wires. No trains will run between Heworth and Regent Centre/Four Lane Ends throughout the work which is part of a £30 million programme of overhead renewals across the network.

Trams in Video: Seaton Tramway 50th Anniversary 2020

It was the event which won the “Event of the Year” category at the 2020 British Trams Online Tram of the Year and was held at the “Tramway of the Year”! It was the 50th Anniversary event at the Seaton Tramway on 28th August 2020 which saw eight trams in service on an intensive service between Seaton and Colyton, including the ever popular no. 4.

New fares announced for Tyne and Wear Metro

The delayed fares review for the Tyne and Wear Metro – as well as the Shields Ferry – has now taken place with an overall rise in line with the cost of living, although many of the savings offered to workers and families will continue. These new fares will be introduced from Thursday 1st April.
