A series of information events are now underway for residents and businesses to find more about the plans to bring the West Midlands Metro network to Dudley. Run by the Midland Metro Alliance the events allow people to find out more about upcoming works as well as the recently announced phased delivery of the route.

53 days of strike action confirmed for West Midlands Metro

Staff on the West Midlands Metro are to take 53 days of strike action between October 2022 and January 2023 as the dispute over pay shows no signs of coming to a resolution. The first day of strike action will take place on Saturday 15th October with a further seven days of action in October, 21 in November, 21 in December and three in January.

Light Rail Strategy nominated for Light Rail Award

Earlier this year UK Tram published a new Light Rail Strategy document which looked at securing a sustainable future for light rail in the UK. And now that strategy is up for an award as it has been nominated in the Vision of the Year category at the Global Light Rail Awards.

Derailment causes widespread disruption on NET

For the second time in a week tram services in the UK have been affected by a derailment. This time it has happened on Nottingham Express Transit with significant disruption seen on the network throughout Friday 30th September after the derailment occurred shortly after 0730.

In Pictures: Urbos100 47 arrives in the West Midlands as 46 enters service

This article is somewhat of a correction as we had previously been told that West Midlands Metro Urbos100 47 had arrived on the same day as 46 (10th August 2022) but now it appears that was rather erroneous information as its been pictured turning up at Wednesbury on 28th September 2022 – that is unless it went for a drive round the block to be photographed arriving of course!

Discounted tickets available on et app

Edinburgh Trams’ app – the “et app” – is now offering discounted bundles of tickets as the new way of working following the pandemic sees a change in patterns of travelling to and from the office. A number of different options are available on the app including discounted bundles of tram day tickets for £9.50.

In Pictures: Blackpool Marton VAMBAC 11 runs at East Anglia Transport Museum Trolleybus Weekend!

Whilst most Blackpool tram fans may have had their eyes turned towards the Fylde Coast over the weekend of 24th and 25th September, there was another Blackpool tram which was causing excitement over on the other side of the country. The unique Marton VAMBAC 11 was used briefly in service at the East Anglia Transport Museum’s Trolleybus Weekend – thought to be its first use since at least before the pandemic hit in 2020.

3012 involved in minor derailment in Piccadilly Gardens

There was a minor derailment at Piccadilly Gardens on Monday 26th September involving M5000 3012 which led to disruption to services through Manchester City for a little over three hours. The tram was the lead tram in a double unit which had just departed from Piccadilly Gardens when it suffered the derailment.

Timetable change for Supertram from 9th October

A revised timetable is to be introduced on Stagecoach Supertram as from Sunday 9th October – although it will see no changes in frequency with just changes to times trams will depart from stops, particularly in the late evening.

Order completed! Final M5000 delivered for Manchester Metrolink

3147 – the last of the M5000s ordered for Manchester Metrolink – has arrived at Queens Road Depot. It was delivered on Saturday 24th September in the usual Saturday lunchtime slot having made the journey from Alstom’s plant in Vienna, Austria.

Goose Fair returns to Nottingham – NET to run extra services

Having the missed the last couple of years because of the pandemic, Nottingham’s Goose Fair is back for 2022 and whilst it does mean that The Forest Park and Ride site is closed it also means that there will be extra tram services running as the crowds head back to the Fair.

In Pictures: Balloon 715 says goodbye as Blackpool celebrates 137 years of operation

The farewell public runs of the Fylde Transport Trust’s Balloon 715 was one of the highlights of the latest special event in Blackpool as 137 years of the tramway was celebrated on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September. In total 15 heritage trams ran on daytime tours over the weekend – including a few surprises as the days went on!

West Midlands Metro services to terminate at Library again from tomorrow

Trams on the West Midlands Metro will once again only be running between Wolverhampton St George’s and Library between Wednesday 28th September and Sunday 9th October. The closure of the newest part of the line to Edgbaston Village comes to allow for work to take place on Broad Street as well as coinciding with the Conservative Party Conference.

Dudley bus and Metro interchange gets full planning permission

A new interchange between bus and Metro services in Dudley will move to the next stage after it was given full planning permission. The interchange will replace the existing bus station (built in 1986) and will provide a state of the art facility which will allow passengers to easily move between the two different transport modes.
