Edinburgh Trams have their fingers crossed for success at the forthcoming Global Light Rail Awards as they are up for two awards – including the Rising Star category as well as Significant Safety Initiative Award.
Marilena Papadopoulou has been nominated for the Rising Star Award having been at Edinburgh Trams since 2014 and in that time has risen through the ranks whilst also undergoing treatment for cancer. She started off as a Ticketing Services Assistant and is now Renewals Manager where she is responsible for the 10 year programme with a budget of £50 million. Marilena has also completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Energy Engineering during this period.
Colin Kerr, Edinburgh Trams Head of Safety & Projects, said: “Marilena has excelled at everything she has been asked to do, and, as a result, she’s enjoyed a swift rise through the organisation and has become a highly valued member of the team. Her broad experience is set to play an important role in the future success of our growing network. She has already excelled within Edinburgh Trams and is surely a rising star of the wider light rail sector.”
In addition to the Rising Star nomination, Edinburgh Trams have also been nominated in the Significant Safety Initiative Award. This follows on from a series of exercises designed to refine the operator’s response to potential emergencies.
The award ceremony takes place on Wednesday 5th October at the Honourable Artillery Company in London.
