Tweaks to Blackpool Tramway timetable from 27th July 2025

A slightly revised timetable will be operating on the Blackpool Tramway from Sunday 27th July 2025 with the aim of boosting punctuality. The basic pattern of service will remain but with a couple of extra minutes added to the end to end journey time the main tweak will see daytime departures from Fleetwood a couple of minutes later than at the moment.

South Yorkshire Supertram Improvement Works: 28th July to 15th August 2025

There are to be more works on the South Yorkshire Supertram this summer as the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) continues to invest in improving the network. This time the work will affecting the Blue and Purple routes between Monday 28th July and Friday 15th August.

Coventry Very Light Rail to be showcased at UK Light Rail conference

The pioneering technology of Coventry Very Light Rail (CVLR) is set to be showcased at the forthcoming UK Light Rail Conference in Leeds. The two day convention starts on 22nd July as is the UK’s premier event dedicated solely to the advancement of light rail, featuring over 50 expert speakers and bringing together key decision-makers, manufacturers, operators and innovators from across the sector.

DLR scrappings confirmed

In Pictures: Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society trams at Hooton Park

Earlier this year we saw the high-profile transfer of trams from the Wirral to Crich, as Birkenhead 20, Liverpool 762 and Wallasey 78 were transferred from the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society to the Tramway Museum Society to provide a secure, and in the future operational, future. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that the MTPS have also been owners of other trams, and indeed still are, this includes three horse cars which had already moved away from the Wirral Transport Museum in late 2023.

First two nights of Oasis at Heaton Park sees tens of thousands get on board public transport

Over 80,000 journeys were made on both trams and shuttle buses to get to the first two nights of Oasis’ homecoming gigs at Heaton Park on 11th and 12th July 2025 – around 30% of all journeys made to get to the popular concerts, the first time Oasis have performed in their home city since reforming.

Torvill & Dean rename their tram in Nottingham

Almost since the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) launched in 2004 there has been a tradition of the trams being named, with all 37 of the fleet now carrying a name. These are split between famous national personalities as well as local community heroes. 201 has been named after former Olympic ice dance champions Torvill & Dean for 21 years, but recently there was a rededication of the tram as the pair came back to the city to perform the last shows of their farewell tour at the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena.

Metrolink trackworks move on towards Piccadilly

Major work, which has seen the Manchester Metrolink line between Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly closed since the start of June, is continuing with contractors set to move on to the next stage of work which will see traffic management measures introduced on Aytoun Street.

In Pictures: East Anglia Transport Museum celebrates the seaside!

Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July saw the East Anglia Transport Museum hold their latest event with the “Seaside Special” taking place. As the name probably suggests to you this event had a seaside theme and transport wise that obviously meant lots of vehicles running with a connection to the seaside, whilst there was also Punch and Judy, fish and chips and ice cream on offer.

UKTram Board visits VLR in Coventry

During the testing/evaluation of Coventry Very Light Rail on a short demonstration line, members of the UKTram Board joined the people eager to get a ride on the innovative transport concept. They paid a visit to Coventry in early June to sample for themselves the tram on the 220-metre long line which has been in operation since last month.

This article sees us taking a pictorial look at the Crich Tramway Village again. These photos were taken on Saturday 5th July 2025 and with a Tramcar Sponsorship Organisation (TSO) meeting taking place some of their projects past, present and future were captured feature in these images.
