Its now 16 passenger trams which have been used at the Crich Tramway Village in 2025 with two further trams being used for the first time this year during the last couple of weeks of August 2025. Those two most recent trams to enter service are London County Council 106 and Sheffield 510 – two trams to cover most eventualities of weather!
The first of these two to return to action was 106 with the open-topper being used for the first time on 22nd August. Then seven days later (on the last Friday opening until the October half-term week) it was the turn of Sheffield 510 to return to service for the first time this year.
Both of these trams had been out of service as they waited their turn to have their arc chutes replaced but with this work having now been completed they have been released for service once more.
The full list of trams which have now run in passenger service during 2025 are London County Council 1, Chesterfield 7, Glasgow 22, Blackpool 40, Sheffield 74, Newcastle 102, London County Council 106, Blackpool 166, Blackpool 167, Blackpool 236, Oporto 273, Leeds 345, Leeds 399, Sheffield 510, Blackpool 630 and London Transport 1622.
Many of these trams are expected to be used during the forthcoming Tram Weekend where as many operational trams as possible will be in service at some point over the weekend. That will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September 2025 and further details have now been confirmed as to what to expect over both days.
Saturday 13th September is set to see a London trams line-up on the depot fan whilst Sunday 14th September will see a line-up celebrating 140 years of Blackpool trams. In addition both days will see the static display of the most recent arrivals as the ex-Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society trams (Birkenhead 20, Wallasey 78 and Liverpool 762) will be displayed alongside Liverpool 869.
Both days will also see the return of various Works Cars in operation along the mainline offering rides (having not been used for this purpose last year) and it is planned that London County Council 1 will also be running on both days.
Meanwhile, there will be a band performing on the Bandstand, the Crescendo Choir will be at Town End whilst in the Exhibition Hall there will be curatorial displays and sales.
James Blythe, Event organiser, said: “The event is a great opportunity to showcase the trams in our collection, with a chance for visitors to see and ride on all our operational fleet in action over the weekend. Displays will include the recent arrivals from the Birkenhead tramway. We are also offering the opportunity to take a short Workshop tours so that you can see our current, ongoing restorations.”
