In Pictures: Elephants invade Blackpool!

If you go to Blackpool on any given day you are probably going to be met with some unusual sights but most of the time that does not include a herd of elephants! However, since the middle of April that is exactly what has happened as the resort is the latest location to have a charity Elmer the Elephant Art Trail with 71 sculptures located across the town.

In Pictures: 25th Anniversary of West Midlands Metro

Thursday 30th May marked the 25th anniversary of the West Midlands Metro with trams having now been back and running in the region for a quarter of a century. Although there have been nods to the anniversary (including a competition for children to design an anniversary logo and a quiz for the older members of society) the actual anniversary day itself was a fairly low key affair, and one which didn’t get off to the best start thanks to overhead problems. Andy Walters captured the sights of the day.

Blackpool 166 adds to the open tram fleet at Crich

The first day of the Seaside Fun event at the Crich Tramway Village on Saturday 25th May not only saw lots of seaside attractions for all the family but also the return to service of another tram for the year. Blackpool 166 has become the thirteenth passenger tram to run in 2024 – and adds a second open car to the fleet for when the weather is nice.

West Midlands Metro offer discounted travel to Wolverhampton Pride

In Pictures: Revised tram service in Sheffield and more new track goes down

This is the latest in our look at the trackwork taking place on the South Yorkshire Supertram system in and around the city centre. Metro celebrates 25th anniversary with unveiling of logo on tram

The West Midlands Metro has now been running for 25 years and to mark the anniversary a special ceremony took place at Wednesbury Depot where nine year old Pargunn Kaur Birring unveiled her logo on the side of a tram.

In Pictures: Edinburgh Trams 267 receives new adverts

Edinburgh Trams 267 has now reached ten different adverts following the removal of its BT ads in favour of a new design for Johnstons on Elgin. The tram is the second in the fleet to have had 10 adverts for 10 different companies/promotions following on from 264.

Metro performance goes over 80%

If you would say that over eight out of ten trains were arriving on time you’d usually think that’s not brilliant but when it’s the Tyne and Wear Metro and performance has been as low as six out of ten over the past year it is at least a move in the right direction. Its time to take another look at the punctuality figures on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Blackpool Boats making themselves at home in San Francisco

San Francisco is now home to three Blackpool Boat Cars following the completion of the acquisition of 226 which has now been transported ahead of work starting on its restoration to service. 226 joins fellow Boat Cars 228 and 233 in San Francisco – which is now home to the joint most of the class anywhere in the world!

In Pictures: Supertram trackworks get underway

Rail replacement work on the South Yorkshire Supertram network got underway from Saturday 25th May with locations around Sheffield City Centre being worked on. These are publicised, as they usually are, as improving the network with the new rails planned to allow a more reliable and a continued safe service to operate. Extra trams for Taylor Swift concerts at Murrayfield

Edinburgh Trams will run additional services next month when Taylor Swift is due to perform on three consecutive nights at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. Trams will run until at least 0100 on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June to help the crowds get back after the concerts as part of the Eras Tour take place.

Lisbon 730 update from Beamish

Back in January 2024 it was announced that Lisbon 730 was moved from the Wirral to Beamish where it was to become a permanent member of the operating fleet in the northeast to provide additional capacity amongst the trams. The tram moved on 22nd January and was soon moved into the depot ahead of a start on the tram being prepared for service.
