In Pictures: Revised tram service in Sheffield and more new track goes down

This is the latest in our look at the trackwork taking place on the South Yorkshire Supertram system in and around the city centre. As we’ve reported before the work is taking place during the May Half Term school holidays and has meant that no trams are able to run through the city centre. Stuart Cooke provides the images.

A special service is running between Halfway and Meadowhall (the Green route) whilst the Blue and Yellow routes are confined to operating the other side of the closure from University of Sheffield. As a result regular trams are running directly over the Park Square delta junction – both on the Green route as well as the Purple route and Tram Train service. Whilst this does happen regularly for early morning and late evening services this is still rare for most to see allowing many to get some more track in the book!

The Tram Train service is currently running between Rotherham Parkgate and Sheffield Station or plain old Station according to the destination display on 399 202. Its just come off the line to Hyde Park and now heads over the delta towards the Station.

111 is seen here coming from Sheffield Station with a service heading to Meadowhall. Although this is officially a Green route service it is actually showing itself as a Yellow and also has the temporary destination board in the bottom of the cab window.

The Green route colour is demonstrated here on 124 as it heads over the delta towards Halfway. Next stop will be Sheffield Station.

Meanwhile the points on High Street just by Cathedral are being replaced as part of the trackwork.

The other side of the worksite and more unusual destinations on the tram. 120 in its special inclusion livery stops at Hillsborough with a Blue route service to University (of Sheffield).

Passengers pour off 108 at University of Sheffield after it has terminated. It will soon set off back to Malin Bridge.

With no access to the depot this side of the disruption spare trams are stabled in the underpass at University of Sheffield. 113 is seen here. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 28th May 2024)
