Brighton Tram 53 Society gets BBC News publicity

Across the UK there are many trams which are undergoing restoration – some of them are at high-profile locations such as Crich, Beamish and the East Anglia Transport Museum but others are being completed by smaller groups. One of the smaller groups who have been working hard on restoring their tram is the Brighton Tram 53 Society and they have recently been given a boost to publicity with a visit from local BBC News reporters.

Initial consultation shows strong support for West Yorkshire Mass Transit

Plans to bring trams to West Yorkshire have the support of more than two thirds of those who responded to the initial consultation into the construction of a Mass Transit scheme linking Leeds and Bradford. Support has come not just from the public but also from leaders in business and education.

In Pictures: York Place trackwork and closed stops

As we’ve already reported, for three days between Friday 14th February and Sunday 16th February essential engineering work took place at York Place in Edinburgh which meant a change in the service operated by the trams. We’ve previously seen some of the unusual moves during the works and in this article we take a look at some of the work taking place, as well as the sight of closed stops. New Metro train enters service on Sunderland line

First we had the very first new train enter service anywhere on the Tyne and Wear Metro network (18th December 2024) and now it has been announced that one of the Stadler built units has carried passengers on the Sunderland and Airport lines. 555 021 is the train which can tick off the Sunderland and Airport lines first – just like it could the rest of the network.

In Pictures: Metrolink 3047 advertises Transpennine Express

Its taken some time but 17th February saw the first new advertising wrap on a tram in Manchester of 2025. 3047 is the chosen tram with it now carrying adverts for train operating company Transpennine Express – the first time a train company has advertised in this way on a tram since East Midlands Trains had several designs on the then Stagecoach Supertram network.

UKTram, who represent light rail in the UK, have been announced as a key supporter of a major transport infrastructure event taking place in Manchester at the start of March 2025. Interchange 25 is the only large-scale event of its kind in the UK and focusses on integrated transport infrastructure and brings together key figures from both the public and private sectors.

In Pictures: Service changes as engineering works take place in Edinburgh

Between Friday 14th and Sunday 16th February, Edinburgh Trams ran a split service because of engineering works taking place on the York Place crossover. Trams ran from the Airport to West End and from Balfour Street to Newhaven, meaning that there was no service at Princes Street, St Andrew Square, Picardy Place or McDonald Road tramstops. In this pictorial article we take a look at some of the unusual moves which took place to allow this split service to operate.

Gateshead Primary School unveil Metro inspired mural

Children at a Primary School in Gateshead have recently completed a mural which is inspired by the Tyne and Wear Metro. Pupils from St Alban’s Catholic Primary School at Pelaw worked alongside a local artist to design the mural which can now be seen on a wall at the front of their school building on Rothbury Avenue.
