We go “Old and New” again as this series continues with two images: one taken of a heritage tram and the other of a modern tram in roughly the same location. Remaining in Blackpool this week we move to North Pier.

The old is represented in this image as we see Brush Railcoach 623 just opposite the Counting House pub as its used on a southbound driver training run. The tram was in an all over advert for the Mystique Show at the Pleasure Beach – this design was in place for six full seasons being applied in March 2000 and not being removed until the end of September 2005. This photo was taken on 9th September 2005.

Then on 27th September 2021 we are back at North Pier as we see 005 heading south in service on the way to Starr Gate. We’re a few yards to the south from the previous image but the Counting House pub can still be seen on the right hand side of the image. The big change here of course is that the North Station extension can be seen heading up into Talbot Square and along Talbot Road. (Both Photographs by Garth Prior)
