West Midlands Metro launch 2025 apprenticeship programme

launched their 2025 apprenticeship programme aimed at finding the next generation of light rail professionals. They are looking to recruit apprentices in operations, infrastructure and rolling stock.

Metro’s apprenticeship programme has a proven track record when it comes to equipping recruits with the skills needed to enjoy a rewarding career in public transport.

Claire Scrimshire, Head of Human Resources at the Metro, said: “Our apprenticeships programme is open to people from the age of 16 with little or no experience, providing a unique chance to gain first-hand experience while studying for a recognised qualification. With the ability to ‘earn while you learn,’ apprenticeship programmes are great pathways to a rewarding long-term career in a sector that plays a vital role in enhancing connectivity and reducing emissions.”

The next intake of apprentices is expected to join the Metro team over the summer. Depending on their age, they can expect a minimum salary of £13,000 per year while they work towards a Level 3 qualification, with the option to progress to Level 4. No previous experience is required, but applicants should have at least a Grade C GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and Science (Physics preferred). There’s also no need to be enrolled in college – Metro will handle enrolment in a suitable course.

A series of open days will take place in April, giving prospective candidates a chance to learn more, take a behind-the-scenes tour, and participate in interactive sessions.
