Throughout December, staff at South Yorkshire Supertram got together for a series of Christmas themed fundraising activities as they helped to support the Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas Toy Appeal.
This saw hundreds of toys donated and raising over £1,400 worth of gifts for children across South Yorkshire who may otherwise have gone without. This was all part of Supertram’s Tramendous Together programme which supports employee-led initiatives that make a positive difference in the community.
This initiative was led by one of the tram drivers, Simon, whose enthusiasm and creativity helped bring the appeal to life. Some of the activities he arranged were:
- Find the fizz
- Guess how many sweets are in the stocking
- Name the merry bear
- The Big Elf Service finale – serving hot chocolate, festive treats and plenty of Christmas cheer
Simon said: “Christmas was always a magical time for me growing up, and I know not every child gets that. I just wanted to help bring a bit of that joy to children who might otherwise miss out. I’m really grateful to everyone at Supertram who got behind it, the support has been incredible, and together we’ve made a real difference for local families.”
Thanks to the generosity of Supertram colleagues, the donations quickly grew until a stationary tram at the depot was filled with all sorts of toys until they were delivered to the charity.
Lisa Sullivan, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids South Yorkshire & Derbyshire, said: “We are so thrilled to have the support of Supertram for Mission Christmas, and to receive £1,400 worth of gifts from them is absolutely amazing. A big thank you to everyone involved from us and from the children we support.”
