Black Country Women’s Aid has been selected as the West Midlands Metro charity of the year. Each year the operator selects a charity to benefit from internal fundraising activities and this year saw colleagues nominate and vote for a cause close to their hearts.
Black Country Women’s Aid is an independent charity that has been at the forefront of providing support for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence in the region for over 30 years. Their vital services offer survivors a pathway to rebuild their lives through specialised support, advocacy, and safe spaces.
In 2024, West Midlands Metro supported Acorns Children’s Hospice with a total of £1,153 raised through a number of events such as a Christmas Jumper Day, coffee mornings and skydiving. Its hoped that the next 12 months will see even more fundraising events to support this year’s charity.
Sara Ward, Black Country Women’s Aid CEO, said: “We are thrilled to be chosen by West Midlands Metro staff to be their charity of the year. We both work at the heart of our communities, so this partnership is a valuable opportunity to further raise awareness for our victim support services. We are honoured to be involved in the West Midlands Metro’s upcoming International Women’s Day event and are looking forward to working together on some exciting fundraising ideas. With West Midlands Metro’s support, we can reach even more people in need and help them start new, safer lives.”
Vicki Bennett, West Midlands Metro Customer Service Manager, added: “As we turn our focus to supporting Black Country Women’s Aid in 2025, the team will aim to make an even bigger impact as we look forward to contributing to the important work this charity does for survivors in our community.”
