In Pictures: Edinburgh 260 advertises Spotify

Spotify have returned to advertising on Edinburgh Trams with 260 received external vinyls for the audio streaming service. The new advert comes around three years since they last advertised on the network when 262 and 267 both carried identical ads.

West Midlands Metro welcomes 46 to the UK

After a gap of nine months, the West Midlands Metro has welcomed another new tram to its network with CAF Urbos100 46 being delivered to Wednesbury Depot on 10th August 2022. This is the ninth of this exact class of tram and is the 30th CAF tram to now have been delivered to the West Midlands.

Seaton Wetlands Halt opens

Trams on the Seaton Tramway are now regularly calling at the new Seaton Wetlands Halt (as well as that at Riverside Depot) following the official opening on 1st August 2022. The new halt gives visitors the chance to explore Seaton Wetlands giving never seen before views across the salt marshes of Colyford Common.

In Pictures: More progress on Trams to Newhaven project

Over the past month or so we’ve heard lots from the Trams to Newhaven project with the programme of completion revised and then an unnamed source criticising the project and saying it wouldn’t manage to hit its deadline and now we can see some of the recent progress on the route of the extension from York Place to Newhaven. Overhead line damage leads to Tyne & Wear Metro disruption

Tyne and Wear Metro services between Haymarket and Airport and Haymarket and Four Lane Ends were suspended from the afternoon of Wednesday 10th August following damage to the overhead line. The damage occurred in the Gosforth area with engineers on the scene to assess and then conduct repairs.

Stagecoach Supertram Engineering Works: 20th and 21st August

Essential engineering works on Stagecoach Supertram on the weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August will mean that the Blue and Purple routes will be running a revised (or no) service throughout the weekend.

In Pictures: Blackpool Flexity2 004 back into service

The Blackpool Tramway has welcomed back Flexity2 004 into its operational fleet – some three and a half years since it last ran with passengers on board! The tram has remained at Starr Gate Depot throughout this period with an undefined fault but over recent months work has been ongoing to return it to action which duly happened on Tuesday 9th August.

In Pictures: Birmingham Eastside extension update

Amongst the opening of the Birmingham Westside extension, splitting of the Brierley Hill line into two phases and the continuing delays to the Wolverhampton Railway Station extension, there is one other extension being built on the West Midlands Metro – the Birmingham Eastside line. Due to run for 1.7km it will leave the current Birmingham City Centre line at the Bull Street/Corporation Street delta junction (installed last year) and travel to High Street Deritend via the HS2 railway station at Curzon Street.

In Pictures: Douglas Bay Horse Tram on the road!

When the assets of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway were transferred between Douglas Borough Council and the Isle of Man Government, there were a number of trams which were deemed surplus to requirements and so were made available via auction. All did find new homes although the majority have remained out of the public eye since. But one which has made a few public appearances is no. 34 – although its no longer able to run on rails as it has been converted with rubber wheels and an engine!

In Pictures: Streetlife Museum, Hull

In this pictorial article we take a trip to the Streetlife Museum in Hull which has been open since 1989 and is currently home to three exhibits with tram connections – one which is very local and the others which are a long-way from home! They are Hull 132 (on long-term loan from the Tramway Museum Society), Ryde Pier Tramway 3 and Portstewart Tramway Tram Engine 1. These photos were taken by David Mee on 14th August 2021.

West Midlands Metro staff set to be balloted on strike action

There is the potential for more disruption on the West Midlands Metro but this time its nothing to do with the trams but staff are set to vote on taking strike action following the rejection of a pay offer which has been described as “insulting”. The ballot for strike action will open on Monday 8th August and will be open for two weeks.

Metro’s new train mock-up goes on public display

The future of the Tyne and Wear Metro is on public display for the first time after a full sized replica of a cab of one of the new trains was transferred to the Stephenson Steam Railway in North Tyneside for display.

Metrolink 3145 sneaks in to Manchester and 3144 enters service

Manchester Metrolink M5000 3145 has arrived at Queens Road Depot – although it managed to sneak in almost unnoticed arriving later than usual. It made the usual journey across from mainland Europe via Hull Docks with it arriving either late on Saturday 30th July or early on Sunday 31st July.
