Crich’s cabmen shelter now open!

Whilst the high profile restorations at the Crich Tramway Village are tramcars, that’s not all that gets restored at the home of the National Tramway Museum. We’ve featured the Bradford Cabmen’s Shelter on these pages before which has seen extensive restoration over the past couple of years and now visitors to the museum can get inside it once more with all work completed and it open to the public once more.

Metro services resume full operation as planned after bridge works

Services on the Tyne and Wear Metro between St James and Tynemouth starting running again as planned on Saturday 30th July after a two week closure. The closure had been necessary to allow Tanners Bank Bridge to be replaced amongst other works.

In Pictures: Napier University advertise on Edinburgh Trams again

Edinburgh Napier University are the latest sponsor of a tram in Edinburgh after a new design for the University was unveiled on 257 at the end of July 2022. This isn’t the first time they have advertised on a tram with a previous design being seen on 269 between July and October 2021.

It has been 85 years since trams last ran in Bournemouth but they are not completely forgotten in the south coast town with a sculpture using rediscovered parts of the Conduit system having been in situ since July 2015. In Pictures: Blackpool 290 arrives at Carlton Colville

Earlier in the week we reported on the departure of Blackpool Brush Car 290 from Rigby Road Depot and now it can be confirmed that it has arrived at its new home of the East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville. Wasting no time in getting it used to its new surroundings it has already made its first trip (albeit not under its own power) along the entire line to check clearances.

In Pictures: Portsmouth 84 at Milestones Museum, Basingstoke

This pictorial article goes to the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, Hampshire which is home to the sole surviving Portsmouth Corporation Tramways tram – no. 84. With Milestones having opened back in December 2000, 84 has been part of the collection throughout that period and remains an integral part of a visit to the museum.

Anonymous Council source claims Trams to Newhaven project is set for failure

The Edinburgh Evening News have recently run a story with quotes from an “anonymous” Council source who has claimed that the quality of work on the Trams to Newhaven project is appalling, that it will be delivered months behind schedule and that experienced Council staff have been kept away from the project.

Horse Trams are back in Douglas!

Its yet another short-term funding settlement extension for TfL

Transport for London and the Department for Transport have come to yet another agreement to extend the current funding settlement for a short period of time – this time it will be extended until midday on 3rd August 2022. A longer term settlement is now on the table but this continues to be discussed between both parties with TfL seemingly not convinced that it meets their needs.
