The Completely Random A-Z of Trams in the British Isles! G is for Great Orme Tramway

We go into Wales for the first time in this series as we reach the letter G.

Operating since 1902, the Great Orme Tramway runs from the outskirts of Llandudno and up to the summit of the Great Orme. Its run in two sections – the lower half has on street running and uses trams 4 and 5 with the upper half run by trams 6 and 7 which run through the fields. It is the only remaining cable-operated street tramway in the country and operates each year from March to October.

6 is seen here ascending the upper section on 26th June 2023. The line provides stunning views of Llandudno Bay as captured in this photo. (Photograph by Ken Jones)
