There is to be work undertaken on tram platforms in Wolverhampton as the West Midlands Metro starts the process of “futureproofing” the stops, which looks set to include future ticketing systems which may be introduced.
The stops at The Royal, Priestfield and The Crescent will be open throughout the works although parts of the platforms may be cordoned off or covered over. Similar work is due to take place at Wolverhampton St George’s but that stop remains closed.
Sophie Allison, West Midlands Metro Managing Director, said: “We would like to apologise for any minor inconvenience at these stops over the next few weeks, but the work is vital for our plans for the expanding network. As part of a programme of enhancements across the network, these stops will be the first to see the installation of infrastructure that will pave the way for new technology, including future ticketing systems.
“We’re doing everything possible to minimise the impact on our customers and aim to carry out the work as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we would also like to thank our customers for their patience, understanding and cooperation while these works are taking place.”
Workers will be on site between 1900 and 0500 Monday to Friday only but there will still be restrictions in place at other times at Priestfield and The Crescent:
- Priestfield: Steps from the pathway adjacent to the park and ride site to the Wolverhampton bound platform will be closed along with one of the pedestrian crossings. Passengers will be directed to the end of the pathway that connects with the platform and pedestrian crossing to reach the Birmingham bound platform.
- The Crescent: Steps to the Wolverhampton bound platform will be closed. Passengers will be directed to the steps and ramp that lead to the opposite platform, where they can use the pedestrian crossing to reach platform 2.
The shelters are dated now
Yeah i’ve been saying that for some time. Hopefully this work will involve installing the new type ones at Library to Edgbaston / Pipers Row to Wolverhampton Station.
They may look dated, but the seats are far more comfortable than the ones at the new style shelters. I really hope they’re not replacing them!
