In Pictures: Bluebird takes flight to Glory Mine

One of the most complex restorations to have been undertaken in the workshop at the Crich Tramway Village is now starting to reach a conclusion. Work on London County Council 1 – aka Bluebird – started in June 2014 when it made its first move into the workshop and now almost ten years later and the tram is able to run under its own power, with a significant batch of testing recently having taken place including three return trips to Glory Mine.

Winning entry announced for West Midlands Metro 25th anniversary logo

A 9 year old from Birmingham has been congratulated after winning the competition to design a logo to help the West Midlands Metro celebrate their 25th anniversary later this year. Pargunn Kaur Birring, who attends Wattville Primary School in Birmingham, was selected by judges after a close fought competition.

New pre-booked assistance trial gets underway on the DLR

Transport for London and operators of the Docklands Light Railway, KeolisAmey Docklands, have launched a six month trial to help make journeys on the network more accessible. To be known as Access DLR, the aim is to enable customers to travel who may otherwise encounter barriers.

Busy Sunday ahead for Metrolink

Passengers planning on travelling on the Manchester Metrolink network this Sunday (19th May) are being advised to plan ahead with Manchester City hoping to secure the Premier League title at the Etihad Stadium whilst Barry Manilow appears at the non-opened Co-Op Live arena. With the two venues being next to each other the Ashton line is expected to be extremely busy in the build-up and aftermath of the two events.

Full details announced of 2024’s Manx Heritage Transport Festival

The Manx Heritage Transport Festival will be back for 2024 between Tuesday 30th July and Sunday 4th August and whilst its reduced from its eight day spectacular last year (which helped to celebrate 150 years of the Steam Railway and 130 years of the MER) there will still be plenty to see and do on all the island’s heritage railways and tramways.

Planned service frequency announced for Blackpool Tramway

Since the announcement last month that the Blackpool Tramway extension up Talbot Road to North Station would open to the public from 16th June (and even before then) one of the questions on people’s lips has been “what sort of service will run on the extension?”. And that has now been answered with the planned service frequency having been revealed.
