Metrolink 1027 to be put up for sale

One of the last operational vehicles dating from the opening of the Manchester Metrolink system is set to be offered for sale, according to a report from the Branch Line Society.

1027 was built by RFS Industries, Kilnhurst in 1991 and has performed various duties for Metrolink over the years. It is usually to be found stabled in the yard at Queens Road Depot and although rarely photographed will have been seen by many as they pass the depot on a tram.

It features a crane and an enclosed cab at one end. Its said that the crane was last overhauled two years ago and that the vehicle remains fully certified.

Metrolink would be keen for the vehicle to find a home at a heritage railway with any organisation interested being advised to apply in writing to Metrolink.
