NET offer free passes to local homeless charity outreach workers

Nottingham Express Transit has renewed a community partnership with a local charity that’s supporting the city’s homeless as the pandemic continues to put additional pressure on the most vulnerable. New travel passes are being offered to Framework’s street outreach team, renewing a partnership which goes back to 2018.

First tramstop on second phase Birmingham Westside extension started

Its another week and another photo opportunity for local dignitaries in the West Midlands! This time the Mayor of the West Midlands and others were on Broad Street in Birmingham City Centre where the first tramstop for phase two of the Birmingham Westside extension is now under construction.

Overhead woes spread to Nottingham

Services on Nottingham Express Transit between Wilkinson Street and Hucknall/Phoenix Park were severely disrupted on Friday 18th December after a fault with the overhead wires was discovered. The first reports of the issue were released at around 1500 with ticket acceptance on other forms of transport soon in place.

Howdon Depot is operational

The temporary Tyne and Wear Metro depot at Howdon in North Tyneside has officially become operational following the completion of work to create a new facility on a former landfill site. The depot will be used initially for the maintenance of up to a quarter of the current fleet while the main facility at South Gosforth is rebuilt for the new fleet of trains.

Metrolink staff trained in mental health awareness

The Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) has started to train Manchester Metrolink staff in mental health awareness to improve the skills needed support to support someone in distress. So far more than 120 of Metrolink’s frontline customer service staff received this life-saving training through the GMMH’s Recovery Academy so that they can be better at supporting the public in the region experiencing poor mental health.

Metrolink 3122 arrives in Manchester

The second of the additional order for 27 new M5000 trams to run on Manchester Metrolink was delivered to Queens Road Depot on Saturday 12th December. Numbered 3122 this tram will help to increase capacity on the Metrolink network and after it has gone through the full commissioning programme will allow more double units to be operated on the networking aiding social distancing.

Forgotten piece of history discovered during Metro Brierley Hill extension preparatory works

We’ve seen throughout the early stages of the construction of Edinburgh’s Trams to Newhaven project that under the road surface there are a number of historical artefacts which have laid untouched for many years and now down in the West Midlands the same has happened as a long-forgotten fountain has been found in Dudley.
