Stagecoach Supertram services saw delays, temporary suspensions and general disruption on Thursday 14th January after heavy snow fell in South Yorkshire. As with the previous snow at the end of 2020 it was the Blue and Purple routes which were mostly affected with other broken-down vehicles causing some delays while a power supply issue was also disrupting things in the evening.

Colyford crossing reopens as Seaton Tramway winter maintenance continues

They may have won the British Trams Online Tramway of the Year for 2020 but the Seaton Tramway are not resting on their laurels as they are already well advanced with their winter maintenance programme. As we reported last year they had permission for the A3052 at Colyford to be closed where it crosses the tramway for a short period and with the track relay here now completed it was able to reopen at the end of Tuesday 12th January. But that isn’t the end of the project as further work is to come.

Ice on the overhead causes Edinburgh Trams delays

Ice on the overhead is an issue which often affects tram services over the winter months but in order to counter this most tram companies send out special “ice breaker” trams overnight to ensure that a normal service can run. But still occasionally these don’t do the job and services are affected, and that was the case for Edinburgh Trams on Tuesday 12th January.

Tram and light rail related face masks

Its become one of the most sought after accessories (and a necessity if you’re going anywhere) – the face mask to help slow the spread of Covid-19. Many companies have launched special ranges of face masks (far be from us to be cynical enough to suggest they are seeking to cash in on the pandemic), with many different patterns adorning them.

The UK double-deck trams at the Seashore Trolley Museum

The chances are even if you know very little about trams (or trolleys) in the United States of America you are aware that at the Seashore Trolley Museum there is a small fleet of double-deck trams from the UK which found their way out there in the 1950s and 1960s. If you have heard of their existence out there you will probably also be very well aware that there are regular calls for their repatriation on the account that in the main they have remained as static exhibits in the USA.

Corgi return with Blackpool trams

Between 1997 and 2009, Corgi released a number a diecast model Blackpool Balloon and Brush trams but since the release of Balloon 726 in its HM Coastguard livery in 2009 there have been no further models made available from Corgi (although Atlas Editions seemingly used the mould for a small selection of trams in recent years). But all that is to change in 2021 as two new models – one Balloon and one Brush – is on the list for release – although you won’t recognise the adverts included!
