The summer rail replacement works on the Stagecoach Supertram network had been planned to be completed on Sunday 6th August with normal services resuming the following day. In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 58 delivered

There is a new highest numbered tram in town after the delivery of West Midlands Metro’s Urbos100 58 to Wednesbury Depot on Wednesday 9th August 2023. This leaves just two of the initial order of 21 trams to turn up, although there is the “extra” 22nd tram to also come, no. 59.

In Pictures: Pleasure Beach return to advertising on Blackpool’s trams

Over the years Blackpool Pleasure Beach have been a regular advertiser on the Blackpool Tramway, hardly a surprise considering the proximity between the two and with a tramstop even bearing the name of Pleasure Beach. However, they have been a notable absentee from the modern tramway with no full advertising livery having been carried by the Flexity2 trams. We think you know where we’re going with this as that has now changed with 012 the recipient of an all new full vinyl wrap for the attraction.

Traditionally the first Sunday of October sees the Wirral Bus & Tram Show take place around the Wirral Heritage Tramway with trams running alongside a selection of heritage buses, many from the collection housed at the Wirral Transport Museum at Transport Museum. However, it has been confirmed that the show in its usual format will not be able to take place in 2023 because of works needed at the Museum as well as on the tramway. Metrolink 3023 celebrates pride

Each year in the lead up to Manchester Pride (25th-28th August) Metrolink celebrate the event by putting at least one on their trams in a special livery. This has seen the spots on the standard livery changed to rainbow colours as well as other variations but for 2023 its an even bolder attempt with a full wrap (aside from the ends of the tram) having been applied to 3023.

Piper’s Row resurfacing work to take place

The wait may still be going on for the start of trams to Wolverhampton Railway Station but every so often we get a little snippet of information which starts to make you think that services may not be that far away (unfortunately, often followed by something which tells you its still some way off). The latest positive development is the forthcoming closure of Piper’s Row for resurfacing work (something which does seem to have happened on several occasions already).

The Wednesbury to Dudley section of the Brierley Hill West Midlands Metro extension is due to open in 2024 (exact date not announced but if they hit the target expect it to be pretty late in the year if previous experience is to be considered) and in preparation for this construction work is now well underway. A lot of the progress so far has been in Dudley and that’s where we head for this pictorial update of construction work.
