Reduced Metro service to South Hylton after power cable damage

Tyne and Wear Metro services between Pelaw and South Hylton have been reduced after damage to a cable which powers the overhead wires on the Network Rail owned line which requires emergency repairs to allow full services to resume.

Crush load tests take place on Tyne and Wear Metro new trains

The extensive testing programme for the new trains being built by Stadler for the Tyne and Wear Metro is continuing with the latest series concentrating on how they perform when they are full. The crush laden testing saw the trains being loaded with 39 tonnes of ballast to simulate a maximum customer loading.

Tramway Terrace may not be demolished after all!

It was only a few days ago that we reported that the historic Tramway Terrace located in front of the horse tram stables in Douglas was to demolished after a recommendation from a safety inspection. But now there seems to be a possible reprieve with another inspection due to be undertaken.

Edinburgh Trams Engineering Works: October & November 2023

Early morning and late evening services on Edinburgh Trams are set to be disrupted from late October to mid November to allow for essential engineering works to take place. Work will be undertaken on the points at West End and York Place and the chance will also be taken to for there to be maintenance checks to the overhead line equipment on the new Newhaven extension.

Seaton Tramway recommended to take on Seaton Jurassic

In 2016 the tourist offering in Seaton increased with the opening of Seaton Jurassic. Located next to the Seaton Tramway terminus in the town – and taking up a large portion of the car park – it was operated by the Devon Wildlife Trust but following the Covid pandemic the Trust announced in 2021 that they would stop operating the attraction due to the risk of financial investment needed. Since then the building has remained closed but that could all change next year if a proposal for the Seaton Tramway to take over the operation is ratified by the East Devon District Council (EDDC).

In Pictures: 58 enters service on the West Midlands Metro

Friday 13th October saw the latest West Midlands Metro tram enter service with 58 carrying its first fare paying passengers. It didn’t last long in service on that first day though but it has since seen further use becoming the nineteenth of the Urbos100 trams to be used so far.

Edinburgh Trams have recently received another award to grow to their ever increasing collection with the Ministry of Defence recognising them for their support of the armed forces. They were one of eighteen employers from across the Lowlands of Scotland to receive the award at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Thursday 5th October 2023.

Final bridge structure for Dudley Metro line to be installed from end of year

A new purpose built bridge is to be installed on Birmingham New Road starting from December as work on the Dudley extension of the West Midlands Metro continues. Preliminary activity took place back in the summer and now with the next stage of the project set to start in the first few days of December locals are being urged to plan ahead before travelling.

Douglas Bay Horse Tramway season comes to an early end

Originally due to have been running until Sunday 29th October, the 2023 operating season for the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway came to an abrupt end when it was announced on Wednesday 18th October that only pre-booked trips would continue for the remainder of the year. The decision was made because of necessary building works – and it was later revealed that this would involve the demolition of the historic Tramway Terrace which sits in front of the stables.

Supertram fare increase from 1st November

The cost of travelling on the Supertram network – operated by Stagecoach until next March – will increase from 1st November, which includes the removal of the £2 single fare (which has been funded locally by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority with trams not included in the government’s fare cap which only covered buses across the country).

NET Engineering Works this October

In most years there is one major closure on Nottingham Express Transit during the summer months to allow for rail replacement works to take place but in 2023 there will be additional work taking place this October. Two areas will be worked on with work starting in the city centre on Sunday 22nd October for three days and then from Saturday 28th October there will be attention to the track at Cator Lane for a week.

There are now four different full vinyl wrap adverts on trams in Edinburgh after two trams carrying designs for OVO Energy entered service earlier this month – and its expected that there will be more advertising the same company to be seen on the streets of Edinburgh very soon. The two trams which have been caught on camera so far are 271 and 273.
