In Pictures: More full wraps on Edinburgh Trams

There are now four different full vinyl wrap adverts on trams in Edinburgh after two trams carrying designs for OVO Energy entered service earlier this month – and its expected that there will be more advertising the same company to be seen on the streets of Edinburgh very soon. The two trams which have been caught on camera so far are 271 and 273.

Both adverts are identical and feature a fairly basic and plan design. Using a green background, once more the third and fifth sections of the tram include vinyls on the windows and this just includes the OVO logo. The rest of the tram just includes various slogans either above or below the windows: “A different angle on energy”, “Let’s get energy back on track”, “An energy company that wants you to use less!”.

271 was the first tram to receive the vinyls and the advert replaced a longstanding advert for Parabola My Edinburgh Park/Edinburgh City Vision 2050 (applied September 2018). This tram had previously advertised Qatar Airways (January-July 2018) and Tiso (July 2018-September 2018).

As for 273 the OVO Energy advert has seen its revised design for Heverlee Lager removed (added June 2023). Before this it had a Johnnie Walker #jointhepact advert (from February 2018) and the first Heverlee Lager ad (October 2021-June 2023).

In other advert news 261 has also received a new advert for Scottish Rugby – replacing a previous design for Scottish Rugby’s Summer Internationals. This means that 261 joins 264 in having had nine adverts so far.

271 arrives at McDonald Road when heading for the Airport.

We take another look at 271 as it approaches Newhaven.

And then the second of the OVO Energy trams is seen just approaching Ocean Terminal. (Photographs x2 by blackpool_trams, 18th October 2023)

This tram looks great in all-over green. An improvement on the prosaic standard livery.

I agree, the standard white tram livery is pretty unimaginative and it’s time for a refresh. I think a better idea for ‘standard’ livery would be to have a single colour all over each tram similar to the all-over green here. There’s also a dark blue tram with an all-over advert for another company (can’t remember which) which looks impressive. And the Camera Obscura tram has colourful cab sections which look good. Basically, the standard livery would be trams in various colours, but one colour per tram (if that makes sense).
