Edinburgh Trams recognised for armed services support

Edinburgh Trams have recently received another award to grow to their ever increasing collection with the Ministry of Defence recognising them for their support of the armed forces. They were one of eighteen employers from across the Lowlands of Scotland to receive the award at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Thursday 5th October 2023.

The recipients were presented with an Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award by Brigadier Jody Davies MBE, Commander 51 Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland. This is given to employers who support their employees who have served, or continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.

The ERS Silver Award is a prestigious accolade and the second highest badge of honour available to organisations that employ and support Reservists, service leavers, Veterans and their families.

Employers initially sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant and then go above and beyond with their support through engaging with initiatives such as employing veterans, supporting individuals transitioning out of the Armed Forces into a new career and providing flexibility for Reservists with regards to training and mobilization.

Sue Bucher, Edinburgh Trams Head of HR, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive such an accolade that recognises our dedication to the employment and support of former Armed Forces personnel and reservists.”

Colonel Ted Shields MBE DL, Chief Executive of Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, added: “This year’s Silver Awards recognise the tremendous support that these Lowland businesses and organisations give to the Armed Forces each and every day. All of us in Defence thank you – we couldn’t do what we do without you. Well done all!”
