In Pictures: Roads reopen as work continues on the Trams to Newhaven project

There is no getting away from the fact that although when built tramways bring a lot of benefits to the communities they serve the construction period is disruptive with various road closures in place as the infrastructure is put in place. That has been the case in Edinburgh where the Trams to Newhaven project is making good progress towards trams running in 2023 but as work moves on, so do the road closures.

Now with added photo (24.5.22)

The latest light rail network in the UK to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is the Tyne and Wear Metro with 4020 receiving special vinyls to mark the occasion. We’d previously said that Blackpool’s offering on 010 was underwhelming but we take it all back now as it seems to have involved a lot more effort than this one which has just seen four of official Jubilee logos affixed to the outside of the train!

Update at end of article (20/5/22)

Ever since Crich announced earlier this week that the museum would be closed until at least the end of the week there has been a lot of online discussion as to what the cause was. In Pictures: The original Metrocar mock-up cab

In all the excitement surrounding the new trains for the Tyne & Wear Metro – mock-ups, simulators, construction process – it can easily be forgotten how things were back in the late 1970s when the system was in the final stages of being prepared for opening. This included a special test track built at North Shields and a cab mock-up used to tour local schools for safety talks. In this article we see those two featured today, now at the Stephenson Steam Railway.

Midland Metro Alliance helps to inspire the next generation

Year 12 pupils from Thomas Telford University Technical College (TTUTC) have got their future careers on the right track after they designed their very own Metro extension as part of a project led by the Midland Metro Alliance.
