Staff at the Seaton Tramway have recently completed inclusivity and accessibility training sessions. The programme aims to provide the staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to make the tramway more accessible and inclusive for all visitors. It was developed in collaboration with disability advocates and accessibility experts.

RAIB to look at passenger dragging incident on NET

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch have confirmed that they have conducted a preliminary investigation into an incident on Nottingham Express Transit which saw a passenger dragged a short distance. The incident occurred at 1804 on 22nd February 2023 at Beeston Centre.

First Tram-Train for South Wales arrives

Transport for Wales are celebrating after the delivery of the first of 36 Citylink Tram-Trains arrived at the new Taff’s Well Depot. Arriving by road the vehicle – to be designated class 398 – arrived overnight on Tuesday 21st March.

Two new Transport Trust Red Wheels unveiled

The National Transport Trust have recently unveiled two more “Red Wheels” at tram related locations. The significance of Blackpool’s Rigby Road Depot and the Kingsway Tram Subway in London have been recognised by these latest “Red Wheels” and join over 150 other sites across the country.

Still no sign of a case for re-extending Douglas Bay Horse Tramway

The new season on the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway will be starting on 6th April 2023 but when it does it will once again be only running part of its former route as the section between Broadway and the Sea Terminal is still to be constructed. A recent debate at Tynwald again mentioned the prospect of returning the trams to the Sea Terminal but it seems there are currently no definite plans of when funding may be sought for this to be built.

There will be various service changes on the Manchester Metrolink network over the next few months. All the work planned is only at weekends but will impact the Rochdale, Airport, Bury and Ashton lines as well as an early morning complete network shutdown.

In Pictures: More excellent progress on new tram depot at EATM

As winter turns to spring it’s a chance to see progress on those projects which have been ongoing throughout the darker, colder months. One of the most significant infrastructure projects which has been taking place is at the East Anglia Transport Museum where a second tram depot is being built to house the ever expanding tram fleet.

The second of the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains has arrived at Gosforth Depot. 555 004 was delivered on behalf of Stadler by RailAdventure which again involved it being transported by rail from Switzerland which included its haulage within the UK by a pair of HST power cars.

More Urbos100 trams arrive in the West Midlands Metro

With trams for the West Midlands Metro now being delivered in full view of everyone on Bilston Road (granted after service has ended when most normal people are tucked up in bed!) you wouldn’t think that they would be able to sneak in without there being any reports of their arrival. But that’s precisely what has happened. At least one, if not two, of the new trams are have been delivered – and in a change from previously they are now not coming in number order.

Wirral Council vote to transfer Wirral Heritage Transport Museum to local charity

The Wirral Transport Museum and Tramway is to change hands with Wirral Council having recently voted to transfer ownership to local non-profit organisation, Big Heritage. The Merseyside Transport Preservation Society will still be involved in the running of the museum and tramway but with the leadership of Big Heritage it is hoped that visit numbers will significantly increase.

The latest new advert on Edinburgh Trams has been added to 262 with furniture retailer Loaf the sponsor of the tram. Coming soon after the colourful and full advert for Breitling this one is a far more low key affair with a white background to the sections above the windows and a return to the standard “Edinburgh” style of full height on two sections and above windows on the rest of the tram.
