NET sees a fall in reliability and punctuality

September is one of the months in the year that the Greater Nottingham Light Rail Transport Advisory Committee meet and when they do they take a look at a report from Tramlink Nottingham about how Nottingham Express Transit has been operating since the last meeting. The committee meet on 12th September and the latest report shows that there has been a fall in both reliability and punctuality but with several high profile issues affecting the network this is probably not the biggest surprise.

Programme announced for Crich’s Tram Weekend

This coming weekend (Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September) will see the annual enthusiast event at the Crich Tramway Village. Extended from one day to two, Tram Day naturally becomes Tram Weekend and the usual mix of trams in service and displays of trams – both operational and non-operational – for photos will be on offer.

The rest of Supertram 105 back in Sheffield

ORR praise heritage tramways engagement on renewed focus on safety

Dr Lindsey Smith, HM Inspector of Railways at the Office of Road and Rail, has praised the light rail heritage sector for their willingness to engage with regulators on enhancing safety processes and risk management. Regular followers of heritage tramways in the UK will have noticed a renewed focus on heritage tramways in the past years and Dr Smith made her comments when attending a meeting of the UKTram Heritage Committee.

Another increase in passenger journeys on English light rail systems

Stourbridge Shuttle reaches 7 million passengers

The UK’s current only example of Very Light Rail is celebrating carrying its seven millionth passenger since it started operating in 2009. The Stourbridge Shuttle is thought to be the shortest passenger transit route in Europe at 0.8 miles long and the new look shuttle service was introduced 14 years ago to save costs and allow the continued operation of this vital feeder route.

2023 Illuminations season underway in Blackpool

A sure sign of the evenings starting to draw in is the switching on of Blackpool’s Illuminations and that happened on Friday 1st September with Sophie Ellis Bextor being given the honour of “flicking the switch” for the 2023 edition of the “greatest free show on earth”. Of course, not only does this mean that the lights are shining until the start of January but its also the start of the busiest period of the year for the tramway – both modern and heritage.
