NET 204 becomes the 2025 Community Hero’s Tram

Nottingham Express Transit Incentro 204 is carrying a new name after it was chosen to become the Community Hero’s Tram for 2025. It has been named in honour of Dr Marcellus Baz BEM, founder and CEO of the charity Switch Up, and charity organisation Pulp Friction who won following nominations from the people of Nottingham.

New mural at Prestwich Metrolink station as part of local Arts Festival

In Pictures: Blackpool 001 receives new adverts

Since advertising began on the Blackpool Tramway over the years there have been a number of companies/attractions who have come back again and again. One of the original advertisers (when you speak of full ads and not just between deck or advert boxes) was Blackpool Zoo back in 1975 and now some 50 years later they are back again with new adverts on Flexity2 001.

Derailment in Sheffield causes delays

South Yorkshire Supertram services were disrupted during the evening of Thursday 19th June 2025 after 105 derailed at the Park Square delta junction. Whilst the tram was rerailed, and investigation started into the cause, revised services were introduced with no service possible across the junction into the city centre.

Fatal Accident Inquiry determines precautions could have been taken to prevent tram crossing death

The Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) into the death of Carlos Correa, after he was struck by a tram when crossing Edinburgh Trams at Saughton in September 2018, has determined that reasonable precautions could have been taken which have prevented the accident.

New LRSSB guidance added to online reference library

The LRSSB’s online reference library of documents is continuing to grow as part of their continued project to make tram and light rail systems in the UK safer. In Pictures: Trams and trolleybuses at the East Anglia Transport Museum

With the East Anglia Transport Museum now open every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (plus some Saturdays for special events) until the end of September there are even more opportunities to visit the winner of the British Trams Online Museum of the Year 2024. And that is precisely what Bryan Grint did on Sunday 15th June when the two trams running were Blackpool Marton VAMBAC 11 and Sheffield 513 with the single trolleybus in use being London Transport 1201.

In Pictures: This tram is for…

If you happen to travel past South Yorkshire Supertram’s depot at Nunnery Square you will probably noticed a number of trams stabled in the yard with their destination display saying “Tram Prepped”. But that is usually as far as those trams get as by the time they leave the depot things have been inputted to get the right route on the displays. But it doesn’t always happen like that as we see in this article.

Riding the Coventry Very Light Rail

Ken Jones had originally been due to be on one of the first test runs of the Coventry Very Light Rail demonstration but unfortunately extra pre-passenger testing was needed and so those trips were cancelled. However, some extra space was found on the planned final Friday and so Ken managed to get a ride after all and in this article he goes into more detail of the experience.

DLR to introduce new timetable from 21st July

Article updated 20/6/25 following TfL press release confirming changes.

Transport for London have confirmed that a new timetable is to be introduced on the DLR from Monday 21st July. Although exact details of the make-up of this new timetable have yet to be formally announced it is expected to be a reduction in services whilst the wait goes on for the introduction of the new trains.

New Mural completed at Netherthorpe Road Supertram stop

Earlier this year we saw a new mural painted onto the shutters of a shop by Infirmary Road tramstop in Sheffield, and now come news of a new mural at the subway leading to Netherthorpe Road tramstop as part of a project initiated by Supertram, local councillors and Sheffield Hallam University. The mural celebrates the community’s connection to nature and travel – and yes it includes a tram, although this one’s a modern one!

In Pictures: Construction continues on Eastside extension

The Birmingham Eastside extension of the West Midlands Metro should be one of two new sections of line on the network to open by the end of this year (albeit just a small part of it) – the other being the Black Country line as far as Dudley of course. In preparation for trams to start running as far as the Clayton Hotel, the Midland Metro Alliance have been continuing work in recent months and in this pictorial update Ken Jones takes a quick look at recent progress around Moor Street Queensway.

Rotherham Parkgate Park and Ride opens

It was teased on the advert applied to South Yorkshire Supertram 115 in January and now the Park and Ride site at Rotherham Parkgate (the end of the tram-train route) is open for business. Providing 289 free parking spaces its hoped that the site will help to ease congestion on the A633 and A6123 as part of a scheme to help improve walking, cycling and transport connections across South Yorkshire.

UKTram appoint Dan Hill as Knowledge Manager

UKTram have announced that Dan Hill has been appointed as the organisation’s Knowledge Manager. As part of this new role Dan, who has been at UKTram since 2016, will be to create a dedicated reference library and Request for Information (RFI) archive, which has been much requested resource for UKTram members.
