In Pictures: Blackpool 001 receives new adverts

Since advertising began on the Blackpool Tramway over the years there have been a number of companies/attractions who have come back again and again. One of the original advertisers (when you speak of full ads and not just between deck or advert boxes) was Blackpool Zoo back in 1975 and now some 50 years later they are back again with new adverts on Flexity2 001.

This advert is not a full wrap and is of the type we have seen extensively in both Nottingham and Edinburgh, featuring full height vinyls on one section of the tram with the rest just seeing ads added above the windows. Whereas in Edinburgh these partial adverts include two sections with full height adverts as the trams are shorter in Blackpool only one section is given over.

It may not be the classic sort of advert many enthusiasts probably crave for – thinking of the Tigeriffic days – it uses the current branding for Blackpool Zoo and obviously features lots of photos of animals you can see if you visit the Zoo. The full height sections are no doubt aiming for the heartstrings of the paying public with one side including a baby orangutan and the other a sealion.

001 had previously been carrying expired above window adverts for the Sands Venue (so expired the venue didn’t even exist anymore!) and had one oversized number remaining from a previous wrap for the Blackpool Resort ticket. That oversized number still remains as part of this advert!

001 runs along Fleetwood Esplanade on its first day in service with the new adverts affixed.

How could you possibly say no to this baby orangutan wanting you to visit the zoo? (Photographs x2 by Oliver Shenton, 20th June 2025)
