In Pictures: Trams running during special bus event at East Anglia Transport Museum

During the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, the East Anglia Transport Museum ran their latest special event. This time the theme was British Bus Fleets, East Anglia which saw many buses from the local area operating special trips around the local area whilst back at the main museum all the usual attractions were on offer – and of course that includes trams in service! David Mee paid a visit on Sunday 14th July.

New OLE engineer training taking shape at UKTram

Supertram Man finds a new home at Crich!

Another upgrade in the Metro control room

£8.8 million is to be invested in the upgrade of equipment contained in the Tyne and Wear Metro control room to monitor and control key assets on the network. This is part of the continued modernisation of the Metro with £43 million being invested this year alone.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 58 advertises KFC

The highest numbered tram operating on the West Midlands Metro has had a bit of a makeover with 58 now carrying advertising vinyls for KFC. This is another case of the same company advertising on different tramways at the same time with this new advert being part of the same campaign as seen in Manchester where 3047 carries an advert livery.

In Pictures: New pointwork at East Anglia Transport Museum

Tyne and Wear Metro extension could be a step closer

The Tyne and Wear Metro could be set to get bigger in the coming years after North East Mayor Kim McGuinness confirmed funding was available to develop a business case. This could see the network extended to Washington as part of the reopening of the Leamside Line.

More details announced for West Yorkshire Mass Transit network

Back when the previous government announced that the northern leg of HS2 would not take place they gave first details of funding being available for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority for a mass transit network, finally giving hope that the much talked about new tram system for Leeds and the surrounding area may actually take place. Several months later and a public consultation has been launched into these plans with first mention of detailed routing for what its said would be the first lines for the network.

Extra trams for big match at Murrayfield

On Saturday 20th July Murrayfield Stadium – more known for rugby of course – will be playing host to two of the biggest names in Scottish and English football as Glasgow Rangers take on Manchester United in a pre-season friendly. And anyone planning on attending is being encouraged to take Edinburgh Trams to the venue with the company confirming they will be running extra trams before and after the match.

Priorities for new tram lines and tram-trains in Greater Manchester confirmed

Greater Manchester could see an even larger light rail network if plans confirmed in a recent press release come to fruition. Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham has his sights set on not only expanding the existing Metrolink network with more traditional services but also to introduce the very first tram-train services for the region.

In Pictures: Crich Tramway Village on 7th July

Car attempts to drive into Piccadilly Undercroft

After a closure for trackworks on London Road, Manchester Metrolink probably hoped that Tuesday 9th July would be a smooth day with a full service being able to operate once again following the previous split meaning the Ashton line only had a shuttle to Piccadilly with nothing able to run from there to Piccadilly Gardens. But of course that didn’t happen with a car managing to find itself where it shouldn’t.
