More major trackworks coming on Metrolink

The summer of major investment into the Manchester Metrolink infrastructure will continue later this month with no tram set to run between Market Street and Shudehill between Wednesday 24th July and Monday 19th August.

During this period any trams heading across the city between St Peter’s Square and Victoria will run along the Second City Crossing with both Market Street and Shudehill stops closed. There will be replacement bus services as well as signed walking routes to help people complete their journeys.

The tram service due to run Monday to Saturday will be (each service runs every 12 minutes):

  • Bury to Altrincham
  • Bury to Altrincham (additional peak-time service combining with the above to give a tram every 6 minutes on this route)
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to MediaCityUK (peak-time) / Cornbrook (all other times)
  • Rochdale Town Centre to East Didsbury (subject to reopening of the route beyond Oldham Mumps)
  • Shaw & Crompton to East Didsbury (subject to reopening of the route beyond Oldham Mumps)
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

The tram service due to run Sunday will be (each service runs every 15 minutes):

Anyone wishing to travel between Piccadilly and Victoria is being advised to either take a replacement bus service or to change trams at St Peter’s Square. There will be a signed walking route between Market Street and Shudehill as well.

Pete Sommers, TfGM’s Metrolink Director, said: “Thousands of journeys are made on Metrolink every day of the week, which is why we’re always working to keep our passengers safe and Greater Manchester moving.   During these essential works, we will be doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum with replacement bus services and signed diversions for vehicles and pedestrians.  I would encourage customers to plan ahead – check our website for the latest travel information before setting off – and leave plenty of time for their journeys. ”

In addition to the above, Shudehill will be closed to traffic where the Metrolink tracks cross the road from 24th July to 5th August. There will be a signed diversion route in place for drivers and cyclists and some bus services will also be diverted.
