The South Yorkshire Supertram came into its own again over the weekend of Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July with Tramlines taking place once at Hillsborough Park. This is a music festival and is a very popular event with those attending recommended to travel by tram, leading to both additional services as well as a revised timetable once it ends each evening.
Those travelling to Tramlines were advised to travel by Blue route tram as far as Hillsborough or Yellow route trams to either Hillsborough Park or Leppings Lane. With over 40,000 people expected to travel to the festival over the weekend its following the last act that things get interesting as special crowd control measures are introduced as well as a revised tram service.
This saw extra trams starting to run 30 minutes after the last headline act finished (2130-2230 on Friday and Saturday, 2030-2200 on the Sunday) with anyone attending the event being directed to Leppings Lane to continue their journey towards Sheffield City Centre. Hillsborough Park would have a revised at the same time with most trams not stopping. A normal service continued running until mid-evening.
