In Pictures: London Transport Museum Acton store

As well as the main London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, there is also a museum store located at Acton which contains many more exhibits which there just isn’t room for at the museum. The store is open on select dates for special Open Days (as well as guided tours), one of which took place over the weekend of 27th and 27th April 2023.

LRSSB strengthen international links at InnoTrans

In Pictures: Supertram goes as far as Arena

The latest engineering works on the South Yorkshire Supertram system took place over the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October. This time they were working on the overhead at Valley Centertainment which saw Yellow route trams only able to operate as far as Arena. New guidance sets new standards for tram work safety

New guidance released by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) aims to drive down the risks associated with construction and maintenance work on UK tramways. Although its mainly focused on the safety of workers carrying out infrastructure works it also applies equally to tramway employees dealing with rolling stock issues such as when assisting a stranded tram.

FOI request confirms delay for introduction of DLR trains

It has been confirmed that the new fleet of CAF trains being built for London’s Docklands Light Railway will not be entering service in 2024. The confirmation came in a Freedom of Information request which requested more information on the challenges which had been experienced since the vehicles started testing on the network.

South Yorkshire Mayor praises Supertram staff for a Superclean

Oliver Coppard, the South Yorkshire Mayor, has recently visited the Supertram depot at Nunnery Square to thank staff for their efforts in the deep clean which has taken place since the network came under public control again in March. This “Superclean” has included both tramstops and trams and was part of the SYMCA commitment to improve the network earlier this year.

Tramway operators given update on LRSSB successes

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) were recently asked to provide a number of briefings to the new UK government in which they outlined their vital role in delivering even safer tram transport across the country. They have also provided an update to tram operators in the country which outline potential future projects focusing on obstacle avoidance, pedestrian crossings and AI machine learning for risk modelling.

All night trams in Edinburgh for Halloween music festival

Edinburgh Trams services will continue to run through the night on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October to help music fans get back from Terminal V Halloween, Scotland’s biggest electronic music festival. Trams will continue to run every 10 minutes until 0300 and then every 20 minutes until the normal start of daytime services on both nights.

Students in Nottingham are being reminded that they can still secure a discounted season ticket for travel on the city’s tram network with the deal ending on Sunday 20th October. With recent figures showing that 42% tram users who have been fined for travelling without a valid ticket within the past year are those aged 16-21, Nottingham Express Transit are urging students to take advantage of this discounted rate before its too late.
