Tram allocations confirmed for Blackpool Event Weekend

As already mentioned on these pages, the Spring Bank Holiday weekend between Saturday 25th and Monday 27th May sees the first “Event Weekend” of 2024 in Blackpool. With a reduced number of trams available because of the ongoing issues at Rigby Road and the out-basing of heritage trams at Starr Gate it was always going to be different from previous hop-on, hop-off timetables but a variety of trams and trips will be offered.

On each day a four tram timetable will be in operation (revised from that originally announced) – on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th this will see three trams in day throughout the day and then a fourth tram (tram B on the allocations) joining in from early afternoon, Monday 27th sees four trams in service all day. Possibly the highlight of the timetable is the timetabled use of heritage cars on New South Promenade to Starr Gate at the end of the day. First tram is 0955 from Pleasure Beach and last arrival back at Starr Gate is 1810 (which is a full length journey from Fleetwood). Link to the timetable is at the end of this article.

Trams due to run over the weekend – which includes two debuts in service for 2024 – subject to all the usual caveats of availability and weather are as follows:

Saturday 25th May

A – Boat 227

B – Bolton 66

C – Balloon 700

D – Balloon 717

Sunday 26th May

A – Bolton 66

B – Balloon 718

C – Brush 631

D – Balloon 700

Monday 27th May

A – Boat 227

B – Bolton 66

C – Balloon 717

D – Balloon 700

As well as the hop-on, hop-off tram tours, there will be bus tours to Lytham (Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May only) using an Open Top Leyland Olympian bus (or 1980s Leyland Atlantean if the weather is wet). And on the evening of Saturday 25th May there will be a Ghost Tram Tour.
