LRSSB board strengthen with new appointment

Ian Law, an expert in light rail finance, has become the latest appointee to the board of the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board. He brings with him a wealth of commercial experience and his appointment comes as the LRSSB look to expand the scope of its operations.

Ian is currently responsible for business transformation at South Yorkshire Supertram, and previously led the finance team through the successful transition into local authority control.

He has also worked for Manchester Metrolink (where he joined in 2001 as part of a team managing the business through significant change), as Financial Director he was responsible for evaluating and negotiating contract changes as extensions opened, a new fleet was introduced and the second depot at Trafford opened.

Other experience includes developing the financial model which underpinned the successful business case for the Newhaven extension in Edinburgh and also worked with West Midlands Metro on a commercial strategy as operations returned to public ownership.

Carl Williams, LRSSB Chief Executive, said: “As the light rail sector continues to grow, our organisation will continue to evolve in line with its requirements, and Ian’s experience will prove invaluable as we explore a range of commercial opportunities and work towards greater independence.”

Ian commented: “Having already assisted the organisation with business planning and commercial modelling, I’m excited at the prospect of taking this work forward as a non-executive director. I’m also looking forward to supporting the LRSSB team as they build on their undoubted success over the past few years.”
