Industry leaders and supply partners who are members of the Railway Industry Association (RIA) Light Rail Member Interest Group recently got together in Birmingham where they discussed the growing opportunities within the UK’s evolving light rail landscape.
The session – hosted by Arup – featured insight from Arup’s Director, Phil Harrison, who outlined the organisation’s global capabilities in light rail, alongside updates from Martin Little, RIA Midlands and Eastern Engagement Manager, and Angus Brummitt-Brown from Coventry City Council, who shared the latest developments with Coventry Very Light Rail.
There were also presentations from Colin Rowcliffe from Siemens Mobility, James Hill of Egis and Tom Maplethorpe, Midland Metro Alliance, who all highlighted the momentum across UK projects and the lessons being drawn from European networks.
James Hammett, UKTram Managing Director, also attended to provide an overview of the organisation’s current activity and the challenges and opportunities emerging across the sector. He said: “The event highlighted the importance of engaging with the wider supply chain to help solve some of the challenges facing the Light Rail Sector and n help build a wider support network.”
