Nexus start the search for more apprentices

Nexus are on the look out for nine new apprentices to start in Autumn 2022 – with many of the roles on the Tyne and Wear Metro. With over 90% of apprentices moving either into higher apprenticeships or permanent roles on completion this is an excellent opportunity for people to start their careers.

All of the apprenticeships are Level 3 with Nexus looking for people interested in building long-term careers with them.

Ally Jennings, HR Manager at Nexus, said: “We had a fantastic response to our apprenticeship recruitment last year, and those apprentices are now making a real difference to our business. This year we have nine apprenticeship vacancies, and we are looking forward to welcoming a diverse group of talented people who are keen to start careers within the transport industry. Investing in apprenticeships is important to us, as it ensures we have people with the right skills within the business, building their careers, bringing enthusiasm and new ideas, and securing the future of our workforce.”

The nine roles available are:

  • 5 in Metro Infrastructure, in signalling, track engineering and electrical technical roles
  • 2 business administration in the Procurement and Train Planning teams
  • 1 electrical apprentice in the Automatic Fares Collection team, responsible for the maintenance of ticket machines, gate lines and validators
  • Shields Ferry crew working towards a Boat Master’s License

Applications can be made now with the deadline being 5th June.  More details at https://www.nexus.org.uk/apprenticeships.
