A trip to… Luas Dublin

In this pictorial article Jim Smythe takes a trip to Dublin’s Luas tram network and provides some images of operations. These were taken whilst the Red line was suspended between Connolly and The Point following a major fire in August 2025.

We start off at Connolly as 3023 takes the curve into the stop as we also see 4013 departing with a service to Saggart.

Moving onto the Green line where we capture a shot of 5005 as it works a service to Broombridge – despite what the destination display says!

4013 heading for Tallaght on the Red Line crosses the junction with the north bound Green Line at Abbey Street/O’Connell Street. Note the curve from a facing point on the Green Line show signs of recent use.

Similar view but from the other side of the road, 3014 heads for Saggart whilst an unidentified tram heads for Connolly.

We see 3016 on a Red Line service bound for Tallaght in this image as it passes the southbound Green Line/Red Line junction at Abbey Street/Marlborough Street. The connecting tracks again show signs of recent use. (All Photographs by Jim Smythe, 5th November 2025)
