In Pictures: Birmingham Westside extension works continue

Work on further extending the West Midlands Metro to Hagley Road in Edgbaston have been continuing over the past few months with just a short break at the start of the lockdown restrictions in March. This extension will see trams continue beyond the temporary terminus at Library travelling via Broad Street and Five Ways to the new terminus at Hagley Road – the line is due to open in 2021. Dan Noon recently took a walk along the line from Library and this pictorial features some of the images showing how things looked at the end of August 2020.

In this first view through the protective fencing on Broad Street we can see that rails are down but here the top surface is still awaited.

A bit further along the line and not only are the tracks down but the tarmac surrounding them is also down.

Here there is more track down and ready with the top surface also in situ. Equipment being used by the contractors can also be seen.

Looking along Broad Street where we can see some track down but in the far distance this seems to come to an end.

One final image showing a section where track is still awaited with preparation works still underway. (All Photographs by Dan Noon)
