Picture in Time: Blackpool 166

Another dip into the archives of trams at Crich this week and its another Blackpool tram featuring – Toastrack 166.

As with last weeks photos this image was taken on 28th May 1990 and shows the sole surviving Blackpool Toastrack just departing from Town End terminus. The tram is about to use the trolley reverser with the driver keeping a close eye on things as it gently pulls away from the stop. It isn’t a full load of passengers but still a healthy number are heading up the line on this very open of open trams! The Police Box is in place and a lady alongside seems to be struggling to collapse a buggy!

Of course, 166 remains part of the operational fleet at Crich today having last passed through the workshops in 2010. Also of note at this time was not only does it have the large “Promenade” and “Circular Tour” boards but also the much smaller “Cabin” hangs below these boards.
