There will be no trams running via Manchester Metrolink’s Second City Crossing (2CC) for a week from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th September with improvement works taking place at Exchange Square tramstop.

Track replacement works on Phoenix Park line to see weekend closure

There will be no trams running between Highbury Vale and Phoenix Park across the weekend of 25th and 26th September to allow for track replacement works to take place. Throughout the weekend trams from Clifton South will terminate at Bullwell with  dedicated bus replacement service in operation.

London’s cable car looks for new sponsorship as 13 million journeys recorded

Since opening in summer 2012, London’s cable car, which runs between the Greenwich Peninsular and the Royal Docks, has seen over 13 million journeys recorded and now Transport for London are looking for a new sponsor with Emirates 10 years deal coming to an end in June 2022.

In Pictures: Trams to Newhaven project works at Picardy Place

When the Trams to Newhaven extension of Edinburgh Trams opens in the next couple of years the current terminus at York Place will be swept away and replaced by a new stop at Picardy Place – which will become the first new stop to be opened on the network since Edinburgh Gateway on 11th December 2016. In this pictorial update we take a look at recent progress here with more work expected to get underway in the coming months.

With the cherry pickers which had been situated in Talbot Square while the overhead installation had started now having gone it would appear that work will not be progressing at the moment but there is still work taking place up at Wilko’s where the track towards the terminus and associated concreting continuing.

Update on Rigby Road Depot

Earlier this year, we reported on the launch of Blackpool Transport’s crowdfunder to raise £1 million to repair Rigby Road Depot’s roof. Now three months down the line and a further update with details of what they are trying to achieve has been released whilst at the same time it appears that some work has started on the structure of the depot with some of the cladding along the top having recently been removed. Alongside that there have been Community Clean Up Events around the depot – and there will be a chance to see and hear what is going on with the plan that there will be the first of weekly guided tours on 25th September during the Anniversary weekend.

New weekly capping introduced on Metrolink

Passengers travelling on Manchester Metrolink can now take advantage of weekly capping when using contactless payments. The Bee Flex Weekly launched on Monday 6th September and now means people can make unlimited Metrolink journeys and never pay more than a seven-day travel pass when they touch-in and out with a contactless bank card or device.

New adverts still keep coming on Metrolink

One of the surest signs of a return to some sort of normality is the number of new adverts we have seen on Manchester Metrolink in recent months – although the latest design is for a company who have probably done well since last March! The new advert is on 3117 which advertises Lifebuoy Soap who are apparently the world’s number 1 hygeine soap brand!

Another north-eastern company appointed by Stadler in construction of new Tyne and Wear Metro trains

Since the time that Stadler were announced as the winning bidder for the new fleet of trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro instead of Hitachi who had a factory in the north-east they have been keen to show how they are supporting the local economy with various contracts awarded to local firms. The latest of these has recently been announced with Turbo Power Systems appointed to supply Stadler with electric converters for the new trains.

Blackpool 31 resumes tram operation at Beamish

It may have been a long time but trams are now officially back operating at Beamish with the first passenger runs since March 2020 taking place on Saturday 4th September. Blackpool car Marton 31 did the honours in slightly damp weather with trams now due to run every weekend for the remainder of September.
