Work starts on Seaton Wetlands Halt

After several years of delays, work has finally got underway at Swan’s Nest Loop on the Seaton Tramway to construct the new Seaton Wetlands Halt which will become the fifth stop on the three-mile line between Seaton and Colyton.

The contract team have been busy over the past month clearing their way to Colyford Common to create access to the new halt. Plant and machinery are now on-site laying sleepers for the boardwalk which will connect the halt to Seaton Wetlands working alongside the Wetlands team to ensure wildlife and farmers’ cattle are undisturbed and happy to share the land for the next 12 weeks.

The new halt is located at what is known as Swan’s Nest Loop, the Seaton side of Colyford, and anyone visiting the tramway over the coming weeks will be able to see the stop slowly being created.

This, along with the other new halt outside the depot at Riverside, will open in due course giving five places to alight from the tram: Seaton, Riverside, Seaton Wetlands, Colyford and Colyton.

It may have been delayed thanks to Covid and nesting swans (not surprisingly probably considering the name of the loop there!) but work on this National Lottery Heritage Funded project is now starting to make progress and soon a new stop will be open on the Seaton Tramway.
