Seaton Tramway team attend FEDECRAIL Conference in Austria

Members of the team at the Seaton Tramway have recently attended the annual FEDECRAIL Conference in Austria. Bringing together heritage railways and tramways from across Europe the conference allowed attendees from across Europe to discuss a range of topics including coal sources, insurance and the future of heritage rail.

In Pictures: Blackpool trams in action at Carlton Colville

Whilst last year saw the East Anglia Transport Museum acquire three Blackpool trams it shouldn’t be forgotten that before these three arrivals there were already two trams from the Fylde Coast fully restored and operational at the museum. And on Sunday 30th April those two trams provided the two tram service providing the perfect excuse for Bryan Grint to pay a visit to the museum once more!

Tramways join forces to help tackle anti-social behaviour

Members of the UKTram Marketing and Customer Services Group have recently met to join forces to help to tackle anti-social behaviour on UK tramways and similar transit systems. Operators have reported that since the Covid-19 pandemic there has been a marked increase in reports of anti-social behaviour from a small minority of people and now the group is looking at how this can be combated.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 45 receives a classical wrap

There is a new advertising livery on the West Midlands Metro with 45 becoming the latest Urbos100 to lose its standard fleet colours with a new vinyl wrap applied over. Whilst not a full wrap (the ends remain in fleet livery) it is more than most of the other adverts seen on the network previously as the rest of the tram has now received the new vinyls.

Beamish gets ready to celebrate 50 years of their tramway

This coming weekend – Saturday 6th to Monday 8th May – will see Beamish celebrating 50 years of operation for the tramway which now runs for 1.5 miles around the museum site. A new event for 2023 – Fares Please! Public Transport Weekend – will be the centrepiece of the celebrations, although unfortunately its not quite the event that had originally been planned!

Another improved timetable for the DLR

When we see that a new timetable is being introduced we’ve become used to the fact that it usually means frequencies will be reduced because of staff shortages or a change in commuting patterns. But it’s a different picture on the Docklands Light Railway as they have just announced a new timetable will start to run from Monday 15th May which will see no reductions in service on any line at any time and every single route will see some form of service increase.

In Pictures: Leeds 602 now on display

As we reported last month, Leeds 602 was extracted from Crich’s Great Exhibition Hall to allow it to play a role in the celebrations of the King’s Coronation. It has now been confirmed that the tram will be displayed on the Traverser in front of the depots for the rest of this week and up to Bank Holiday Monday.

In Pictures: New advert on Edinburgh Trams 263

Its been a quite few months for new adverts on the Edinburgh Trams network with no new designs seen since February but that has changed now with 263 receiving a new wrap advertising Seven Peaks IPA. The advert debuted earlier this week and is the fifth advert that this tram has now carried.

London County Council trams to take centre stage at Crich on 15th May

Monday 15th May 2023 is the 120th anniversary of the start of electric tram operation on the London County Council tram system and to mark the occasion two surviving tramcars which ran on that system are to be displayed at the Crich Tramway Village. The trams will be 106 and 1, which represent the start and the end of the design of trams for the LCC.

Blackpool Coronation 304 gets closer to a return…

The Fylde Transport Trust have released another update on the overhaul of their Blackpool Coronation 304 and whilst it won’t be ready in time for the Coronation next weekend, with a fair wind hopefully it won’t be too far away before we all get to see the sight of a Coronation Car in operation again on the Blackpool Promenade!

Stagecoach Supertram Engineering Works: Sunday 21st May

Supertram services on both the Blue and Purple routes will be amended on Sunday 21st May to allow for rail replacement work on Ridgeway Road. The work is due to take place on the outbound track between the junction with Hurlfield Road and Elm Tree House.
