Old and New – Blackpool: Fleetwood Ferry

“Old and New” continues on the Blackpool Tramway with the latest set of photos coming from Fleetwood Ferry.

Back before the Blackpool Tramway was modernised the terminus at Fleetwood saw unloading take place on Bold Street before the trams pulled forward onto the Esplanade to load for their return journeys. And it’s the Esplanade where these two images are taken with this first one from 2nd September 2008, another Fleetwood Market Tuesday. On this day fine weather saw Open Top Balloon 706 – Princess Alice – allocated to run a special and as with many Market Tuesday’s it was a case of if its out it goes to Fleetwood! We see the open topper waiting ahead of departure with a special back to Pleasure Beach.

Then on 20th September 2023 we see Flexity2 003 coasting along the Esplanade with a timetabled service to Starr Gate. At the time 003 was carrying this bright pink advertising livery for Pretty Little Thing – a far cry from the green and cream fleet livery we saw in the image of 706! As mentioned before there is now no tramstop here with passengers both getting off and on the tram round the corner in Bold Street. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior)
